INTRODUCTION
Turmeric tea, also known as “golden milk,” is a delicious and nutritious beverage that has been used for centuries in traditional Ayurvedic medicine to promote overall health and wellness. The key ingredient in turmeric tea is curcumin, a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound that is responsible for many of the health benefits associated with turmeric.
One of the most well-known benefits of turmeric tea is its ability to reduce inflammation throughout the body. Inflammation is a natural response to injury or infection, but chronic inflammation can lead to a host of health problems, including heart disease, cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis. Curcumin has been shown to suppress the activity of inflammatory molecules in the body, making turmeric tea a great choice for anyone looking to reduce their risk of these conditions.
Turmeric tea can also help improve digestion and alleviate stomach discomfort. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of curcumin can help soothe the stomach lining and reduce the symptoms of conditions such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
In addition to its anti-inflammatory and digestive benefits, turmeric tea is also a great way to support brain health. Curcumin has been shown to boost the production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein that is essential for the growth and survival of brain cells. This means that drinking turmeric tea regularly can help improve memory, focus, and cognitive function.
Turmeric tea can also help boost the immune system, fight infections, and prevent the growth of cancer cells. Curcumin has been shown to activate the immune system and inhibit the growth of cancer cells in various studies.
Turmeric tea is also beneficial for the skin since curcumin has powerful antioxidant properties that can help protect the skin from damage caused by UV radiation, pollutants, and other environmental factors.
Finally, turmeric tea is a great addition to any weight loss regimen, as it can help boost the metabolism and suppress appetite, which can make it easier to achieve a calorie deficit and lose weight.
My Turmeric Tea Story
We all have heard of turmeric, right? If we watch any Indian movies, it’s a well-known spice. There is no end to the use of turmeric among Indians. In northern Nigeria, turmeric is used to maintain the skin and body. As listed above, this magical spice has numerous health benefits. However, I didn’t always like it!
When I was first learning about spices and mixing spices, I hated turmeric. It ruined my other spice mixes because I wasn’t mindful of proportions. It was turmeric that I first learned about when I studied mixing spices and herbs. It was one of the items we used to make the perfect curry, my spice teacher said, but I didn’t like it because it was too pungent, it left stains everywhere, so I had to do so much work cleaning up after it.
Then I encountered an ayurvedic method of treating insomnia which I was suffering from for some days during the covid, but one that stood out was turmeric “The golden milk”.
I thought it would be nice to experiment with the stain master. A recipe for making the perfect golden milk was then shared with me by my health coach, and ever since I have been unable to stop drinking it.
Additionally, I shared it with my dad, who finds it helpful whenever he feels tired or stressed.
As a result, my perception of turmeric has been completely transformed.
